Christmas Mini Session

After posting an ad on my facebook page for Christmas Mini Sessions supporting our missions trip to Helena, Montana, I was delighted to see my friend Jessica’s message in my inbox. I took her engagement photos and a bridal session back when I was first starting in photography, so I have a soft spot in my heart for this sweet couple. Since I was planning to be home in Summerfield NC for Thanksgiving, it worked out perfectly. And wow did we have great weather! It was warmer than usual, and there was still plenty of pretty leaves on the trees. With the sun filtering through the woods, we were able to get some beautiful shots of this sweet family. I love how they incorporated the beautiful family homestead into their images, making them so personal and timeless.

Anytime families have photos taken in their own space, the result is always a more relaxed session. It also enhances the images due to the fact that you’re incorporating family history right into the images. I love doing that!

Family photographs are so special for many families because it allows them to teach future generations of their family history. Having a photo with numerous different generations all in one is so useful when teaching family history as you can show future children where they came from. Sure, they could use Genealogy Bank, but having a family photograph allows them to put a face to the name. It is also a lovely reminder of those we lose in years to come.

Photographing the little ones are always a big tricky, but I’ve learned over the years if you let them wiggle around and just capture them being them the result is a lot more beautiful (and less tears are involved haha!). That sweet little squirmy boy would not have had a good picture of himself if we had not let him run around that day. I love how his little portrait turned out. Oh! And sweet Hadleigh! Love those portraits of her in her black hair bow. Again, let the children be and you’ll have a much better image.
