The Care Family

If you know me, you know I love Topsail Beach, North Carolina.

I basically grew up on Topsail Island.

Going to Topsail two to three times a year has been a part of my life until I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. Now I just go a couple of times a year 😉 Which is about as often as I can muster the courage to drive 7-9 hours with a toddler in the backseat.

But every year we load down the car with swimsuits, sunscreen, hats, beach chairs, bikes, clothes for cold nights and clothes for hot days. Rain jackets, flip flops, fishing poles, deck shoes (for the occasional deep sea charter), magazines, books, Eagles Nests. Every year I try to bring less, but inevitably I bring more than I use. Because inevitably the ocean lulls me with its calm and I’m perfectly content to wear sunwashed and salty clothes all week long. Books go unread, magazines crumpled in my suitcase. But I’m content to ignore them and watch seagulls soar overhead all day. To watch the roll and toss of the waves is all I need.

Bringing my camera along to the beach is a must. The ocean is the most inspiring thing to me creatively. And I love photographing families at the beach. I guess because that’s where my love for the beach began, as a child running and playing on the beach with my family. Those are precious memories to me and I am so fortunate my parents instilled the love of the ocean in me at a young age.

Capturing the Care family is always fun. With five kids, you never know who’s going to be grumpy or happy. Or who may decide right before the shutter clicks, to run down the beach after a seagull! But this session was really perfect. Everyone behaved so well and I’m really happy with the images we got in a short amount of time.
